A public apology for almost killing el husbando

by lachicaruns on

I set out to encourage a reluctant el husbando as he started running for the first time in, cough, cough, a while. I very carefully planted some seeds of encouragement, got him nice running shoes and tried not to be my overly enthusiastic self.

He finally suggested we go out for his first run. He downloaded the Couch to 5K app on my iPhone again, I pressed start and we set off. I’m familiar with the tool because I used it when I first started running and several times after that to come back after injury.

It wasn’t until after the first week’s three runs were done that I checked on our progress. Oh, oh.

The app had started us on week three, not week one. Not sure if that’s where I left off last time so that’s what the app pulled up or if I accidentally clicked on the wrong spot.

There may have been some finger pointing, accusations and demands for a public apology, but el husbando did good-naturedly suggest we do week three again before advancing to week four next week.

That also meant that this morning’s run in no way resembled the out-of-breath, $%#&*-filled first outing. Instead, there was that familiar, rhythmic breathing that comes from just the right pace.

The runner’s high seems elusive so far, but progress made an early appearance.

Have you seen the dog-shaming pictures? What’s been the funniest running-related mistake you’ve made?

My name is Gisgie. It's pronounced geese (like the birds) and gee (like the letter). Now that we've met, I'm glad you're here. I'm an injury-prone runner who manages to find reasons to keep coming back to the road despite ongoing challenges. Most recently, I've struggled with piriformis syndrome. I'm currently winning. Most days.

Hahahahahahahaha! But I give the poor guy snaps for being able to do it.

And I am deeply amused you didn’t remember Week One — how it’s so beautifully set up for success…

High fives all ’round, Tony!
