Tuesdays on the Run: Race Swag

by lachicaruns on

You know how newly engaged people suddenly talk with their hands to show off their ring?

Picture that but instead of a ring, it’s a necklace charm that just so happens to be played with. Constantly.

Yeah, that’s me. Ridiculous? Absolutely. Fun? You betcha.

I’ve talked about my love of race medals before, but I’ve found an even-better alternative: A sterling silver race charm.

Yes, I got jewelry after running 13.1 miles.

Isn’t it pehrty?

It took me over an hour to detangle an old silver chain I found at the bottom of a jewelry box in my closet, but I wore that puppy as soon as I could and have worn it just about every day since my Gazelle Girl Half Marathon. I love that I can have it with me instead of just having a medal hanging on my display.

The race was awesome. Well organized. Fun. The gorgeous weather didn’t hurt. And I thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship with my friends.

I knew about the charm but had not seen it before race day and I am a big enough woman to admit that I’ve already added Gazelle Girl to next year’s race schedule mostly based on the charm itself.

I especially love that the charms are made by Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Terryberry Jewelry, a family business which specializes in employee rewards and recognition programs.

Previous years’ charms aren’t too shabby either, so I am looking forward to next year’s design. I just know it’ll look great around my neck.

How about you: What’s the best race swag you’ve ever gotten? I’m answering that question as part of today’s Tuesdays on the Run link-up with runner bloggers MCM Mama Runs, My No Guilt Life andMarcia’s Healthy Slice. Let me know below, then go check out all of the other bloggers’ posts.

My name is Gisgie. It's pronounced geese (like the birds) and gee (like the letter). Now that we've met, I'm glad you're here. I'm an injury-prone runner who manages to find reasons to keep coming back to the road despite ongoing challenges. Most recently, I've struggled with piriformis syndrome. I'm currently winning. Most days.

Oooh I love these! I’m not really into medals, but jewelry gets me excited for a race! I love that you have a couple charms from the various years. Wish I lived closer to race Gazelle Girl!

I love them, too. Unfortunately, this was my first Gazelle Girl, so I only have the one charm, but I hope to get a whole collection going! 😉 Thanks for stopping by.

That is awesome! I love that they’re locally made too. Any time a race director can do something unique, I’m all for it.

I haven’t been running for very long (three years), so I didn’t know that jewelry was even an option. Now I find myself researching races that hand out things other than medals. Somebody stop me.

That’s the plan. I also just learned about the Nike necklaces and I want one of those, too. I think we’ve found something that motivates me (other than donuts).

I couldn’t find a display locally that I liked (and could afford), so I made my own using a board and chalkboard paint. Got the idea on Pinterest, of course. Hope you find one to show off your bling!
