Bestest finds plus a Skirt Sports announcement

by lachicaruns on

Lots of good stuff to share this week, so let’s get started.

La chica wears a skirt … or two … or lots

Just found out I get to represent Skirt Sports as part of their ambassador program. It’s a company I’ve been following for a while, as a running friend I admire and trust also represents them. In fact, I had ordered the Happy Girl running skirt before getting the exciting news, but haven’t been able to try it on a run because it’s been a bit too cold in the Michigan tundra. What I should have ordered was their Ice Queen Ultra, which has long leggins. Doh!

What I can tell you is that the Happy Girl is obviously very well made and the medium fit me really well. I like that it has built-in 7-inch, semi-compression shorts that are said to not ride up. I threw the skirt in the hand-wash cycle with Tide Sport and hung it up to dry. I didn’t see any loose threads or any stretching from the spin in the washing machine.

Why a skirt? Well, for one, it covers my, ahem, assets. And, this one’s longer shorties should prevent the thigh-chafing and wedgie problems that can surface with traditional running shorts. Plus, they are very flattering and don’t require additional “runderwear,” hopefully eliminating ongoing adjustment issues.

Very much looking forward to next week, when the weather app claims it’ll be in the 50s. If that’s the case, I’ll take the Happy Girl out for a spin or two or many.

As for the company, it was founded by professional triathlete Nicole DeBoom who wanted “a line of cute, flattering, high-performance running apparel.” She eventually created — and wore — her prototype for the 2004 Ironman Wisconsin and her company was born.

That company’s been supporting athletic women ever since. And by athletic, I mean real women. One of my favorite things about their website is that it features women of all shapes and sizes being active — running, walking and biking, for example. And it’s not just their models who are active; the company has a very busy calendar, if you want to check out their events.

What does that mean for LaChicaRuns? I’ll represent the company and will be provided with some of their products and will be able to do gear testing as well as attend some of their events. I’ll give you more details when I learn more, and will always disclose when I talk about a product the company provided.

And run I must

In part because I spent a chunk of the week stuffing my face, a la Homer in this gif:

I now have a favorite 18-year-old and we celebrated tonight by eating lots of homemade lasagna his abuela whipped up, plus chocolate cake and ice cream. May I not see a scale for at least the next week … or three.

While it’s certainly not very warm here yet, I am grateful that spring is officially here. I’ve seen some bulbs peeking out, a few patches of what could almost be called green grass and buds on trees.

But what I’m most grateful for is not having to look at any more pictures of frozen runners.

What I don’t tire of is seeing sunshine or pictures of running cats:

What were your favorite finds of the week? Were you familiar with Skirt Sports? Are you a cat or dog person?

My name is Gisgie. It's pronounced geese (like the birds) and gee (like the letter). Now that we've met, I'm glad you're here. I'm an injury-prone runner who manages to find reasons to keep coming back to the road despite ongoing challenges. Most recently, I've struggled with piriformis syndrome. I'm currently winning. Most days.

Nicole DeBoom

We’re so excited to have you on board the Skirt Sports train! We love your philosophy (most days I’m winning too!) and look forward to a fun year!

Aw, chucks, thanks so much! Now I just need to get all. The. Skirt. Gear. 😉
